“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” -Mark Twain
It’s official. I am taking the plunge. On June 3rd, 2014 I will launch my canoe on the Beaverhead River, just upstream from the Jefferson River, in Twin Bridges, Montana and canoe to Dallas, TX. I will say goodbye to modern society conveniences and settle into my new life of “experiencing” America and living in the great outdoors.
I have always been fascinated with long distance adventures, be it the original settlers who risked it all, set sail on a boat and prayed for safe passage to the “New Land.” Pioneers who packed all their belongings and went west via wagons on the Oregon Trail seeking new opportunities or even modern day trekkers who take to the trails in Appalachia.
I view this is the right expedition at the right time for me.
Your mother was always proud of you and she will be your guide as you set out on this adventure.
Thank you Betty, you were such a great friend to her which will never be forgotten.
Your Mom would be your biggest cheerleader. I can see her now waving her Pom poms shouting “AKA-LAKA CHING.” We were blessed to be her friends and think of her often. All the best to Vickie’s mother.
