“I don’t know where I’m going…but I sure know where I’ve been.”-Whitesnake

Nothing says “thanks” like a ride from your brother to the east side of Lake Lewisville. Kevin happily drove Norm and I back to Lake Lewisville despite his ailing condition (sore throat). My boat survived the evening in the bushes all alone. This was a relief.
I wanted to complete Lake Lewisville last night, the reality is we ran out of daylight so onward we paddled today. Norm and I set out on a beautiful, windless, North Texas morning. Thanksgiving turned out to be one of the easier days of the entire trip….aided by Norm’s paddling (and a short portage) we canoed to the bottom of Lewisville in about 2 1/2 hours. This included a short respite at our portage point. The reality of completing the journey is starting to sink in, I thought about the first lake of the voyage, Canyon Ferry in Montana, and how much less nervous I was on Lake Lewisville this afternoon. We had the lake to ourselves, I suspect Thanksgiving isn’t a real popular boating day.
Norm dropped off his car close to the Dam and we portaged the boat back into the woods. This time we hid the boat in the woods where Bus. 121 crosses the Trinity. Not. Exactly. Ideal. I mean what are the chances someone discovers my boat chained to a tree on Thanksgiving in the woods off Business 121? Hopefully slim. We hid the boat well (I hope) and headed back to Kevin’s for Thanksgiving with the familia. Tomorrow we should be able to paddle to Irving which will allow for an easy paddle on Saturday to the finish line. I do not want to have to hump it on Saturday…again, not sure of the wisdom of setting a specific time to complete this journey…but why not?
I
After Wajid and I left you at the 37 bridge I thought for sure you would still be on the Red River for Thanksgiving. I am glad you got to go to your brother’s home.
When do we get to read about the final two days of Canoe Voyage? Don’t leave us in suspense Keith. PS And don’t forget the 80s rock quote.
